Talks are marked on scientific content (50%) and presentation (50%)
Scientific Content: Please grade the student on the content of the presentation, including:
- Title appropriate for presentation content (judge the title given at start of presentation, not what is listed in the program)
- Introduction & background
- Interpretation of results & analysis clear, concise, & accurate
- Objectives or hypotheses clearly stated & concise
- Materials & methods (study design) clear, concise, & appropriate to problem
- Significance of results to field of study clearly discussed
- Ability to answer questions clearly
Presentation: Please grade the student on the content of the presentation, including:
- Logical order; minimum redundancy,
- Smooth transitions between presentation slides & sections
- Slides use universal design principles with appropriate fonts, font sizes, high contrast images (for example, avoiding color schemes that are hard to distinguish for colour-blind participants like red/green)
- Effective use & description of visuals (i.e. photos, diagrams, figures, and tables); do they support the presentation narrative?
- Appropriate volume (uses microphone if available) & speed of speech; clear communication
- Effective use of time, with appropriate balance of Introduction, Materials/Methods, Results and Discussion
